I was crippled as a child and had an operation (successful) at age four to correct the condition. The charity hospital performing the surgery allowed visits only on Sunday, and on that day my parents would arrive bearing gifts of coloring books. Half were blank, half delicately and lovingly colored by my mother's hand. The pastel was shaded perfectly within the lines and so deftly applied that no crayon strokes were visible. Thus invited, I began furiously applying crayon to the blank books and I've been doing so, now, for more than forty-five years. Thanks, Mom. close
